Chamillionaire & Ne-Yo Invade NYC During VMA Week
As previously reported, the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live at 8pm EST next Thursday, August 31st from Radio City Music Hall. Hosted by actor/musician Jack Black, the show will feature performances from T.I., Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé and Ludacris.
In celebration of the VMAs MTV is sponsoring several events in New York this week. On Saturday, August 26th from 10 am-1pm at Arthur Ashe Kid's Day, the US Open's pre-tournament event, MTV will have a special VMA booth where attendees can enter to win a pair of tickets to the 2006 VMA's. Ne-Yo, Teddy Geiger and the star of MTV's "Cheyenne" will all perform. Tickets are available at usopen.org or 86-OPEN-TIX.
Tuesday, August 29th at 5pm MTV is holding their MTV Kickoff Concert which will feature performances from Rihanna, and Chamillionaire, among others. Concertgoers will also have the chance to win tickets to the VMAs. The concert is free and open to all ages, with tickets available from Tower Records and the MTV Store.
MTV has also kicked off a number of VMA related promotions, including issuing some 250,000 VMA Metrocards which have been available at limited subway stations since this Sunday, August 20th.
Starting yesterday (8/24) and continuing until 8/31, a number of NYC restaurants, bars and clubs will be offering VMA promotions including discounts, VMA happy hours and VMA themed menus. MTV has also created limited edition VMA t-shirts which feature the lyrics from Video of the Year Nominees and Performers Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Shakira, T.I., The Killers, Panic! At the Disco and others which will be given to fans at VMA Week events.
Beginning Tuesday 8/22 WHTZ Z100 and WWPR Power 105.1 will be offering listeners the chance to win tickets to attend the VMAs. Both stations are also giving away tickets to the VMA Kick-Off Concert and will broadcast live from the VMA Red Carpet.
