Outkast's "Idlewild" Gets Release Date

After a number of delays, Outkast is scheduled to release the Idlewild soundtrack this August, just days before the theatrical release of the movie of the same name.

As previously reported, the film which was written and directed by frequent Outkast collaborator Bryan Barber has already been pushed back several times. Set in the 1930's, the film boasts an all star cast that includes both Andre 3000 (born Andre Benjamin) and Big Boi (born Antwan Patton) as well as Cicely Tyson, Patti Labelle, Macy Gray, Terrence Howard, Ben Vereen and Faizon Love. Back in October, Big Boi told Billboard Magazine that the period era setting of the film was having an influence on the soundtrack, a factor that audiences can clearly hear in "The Mighty O," the first single off Idlewild, which has leaked to radio and internet in recent weeks. The track features a sample of 1930's big band leader Cab Calloway hit "Minnie the Moocher," the duo transform's Calloway's "hidey-ho" lyrics into their "Mighty O" chorus.

The song marks the return of Andre 3000 the rapper -- since the artist primarily sang on The Love Below his contribution to the last Outkast release. On "The Mighty O," Dre raps: "The damsels in distress but they a mess/ They only like my armor and that I'm a performer/ They read one magazine and want to think they're getting warmer/They're only getting colder." The lyrics only further his reputation for eluding his public.

Ouktast's Idlewild is due in stores on August 22, while the film is due in theaters on August 25.
