Nas and T.I. Team With Russell Simmons to Share Keys To Financial Success in NY
As previously reported, Simmons, who serves as chairman of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN), launched the tour in 2005 to speak to young adults and community members about the importance of financial literacy.
At the summit, the aforementioned artists along with financial experts gave attendees advice on home ownership, budgets, credit cards, home ownership and other financial matters.
"The biggest misconception probably comes from the hip-hop community itself ... that the money lasts forever," LL told the crowd. "You have to do the right thing with it."
A survey which was released this month by the Federal Reserve showing that U.S. teenagers lack the fundamentals of personal financial knowledge was also discussed.
"It's time that we do something to educate our kids," added Nas. "We've got to think about our future, think about tomorrow. It's beyond the corner, it's beyond the jails. We've got to think about growing old in this game."
This year's "Get Your Money Right" tour kicked off last month in Detroit with the support of Three 6 Mafia, MC Lyte and Obie Trice.
Sponsored by Chrysler Financial and Anheuser-Busch, the tour will also be making stops in Miami on May 20, September 16 in Atlanta, September 30 in Los Angeles and October 14 in Dallas.
