Pimp C May Have Died Of Natural Causes, Says Authorities
The 33-year-old rapper was found dead at the swanky Mondrian Hotel in Hollywood yesterday (Dec. 4). Capt. Ed Winter of the L.A. County Coroner's office said it appears that Pimp (born Chad Butler) died of natural causes.
The rapper was found lying on his side atop the bed in the sixth floor hotel room, fully dressed. There was no drug paraphernalia or other drugs found in the room and he didn't appear to have injured himself in any way. Winter said it did not appear that there was anyone else in the room at the time of his death.
Mondrian staff members checked Pimp C's room when family members called worried about him, the hotel said in a statement released yesterday.
"Mr. Butler had checked into the hotel on 28 November and, according to the callers, was to have checked out" Monday, the statement read. "Security personnel went to Mr. Butler's room and found him in bed, apparently expired. A 911 call was placed at about 9:20 a.m. and paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced Mr. Butler dead."
In the Hip-Hop community, Pimp C will be sorely missed.
"On some real shit, I feel like a New York nigga feel like if they lost Kool G Rap or Rakim," Killer Mike said, who was in the process of getting Pimp to appear on his upcoming album.
Lil John, Atlanta-based rapper Stat Quo and Scooby, of Houston rap group the Grit Boys, also expressed a great sense of loss.
According to Pimp's manager, Rick Martin, the rapper had a new solo deal with Jive Records, a new satellite show on the horizon and a national cologne endorsement.
An autopsy will be performed and toxicology test results will be released in six to eight weeks.
