Paul Wall & Tone Loc Coach Celebs In New MTV Competition, "Celebrity Rap Superstar"

MTV is breaking into the talent competition genre with "Celebrity Rap Superstar," a new series giving Paul Wall, Warren G, MC Lyte and other hip-hop stars the chance to make celebs like Perez Hilton freestyle battle-ready.

The show takes eight celebrity contestants and pairs them with rap celebrity mentors like Tone Loc and Wall, who will prepare them to compete against each other by performing covers of some of raps greatest hits, creating original raps and freestyling.

Each week stars from TV, film, music and sports will step up to the mic in front of a live studio audience and a panel of expert judges. After each week's performances the viewing audience is asked to vote on their favorite contestant. Week after week the celebrity contestant with the least votes will be eliminated until the best remaining new MC is crowned winner.

"Celebrity Rap Superstar" premieres this Thursday, August 30 at 10 p.m. EST/PST on MTV.
