Common Becomes "Wanted" Man In Film Business, Scores More Acting Roles
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Com will get in touch with his darker side in Wanted - a film centering around a white-collar worker, played by James McAvoy, who discovers that he is the son of an evil super villain. When his father is assassinated, he inherits his powers and begins life among the other super villains, played by Freeman, Jolie and Common.
The Chi-Town MC will take on the role of the Gunsmith, an assassin with an extensive knowledge of firearms who is chosen to help train McAvoy's character into the world's most feared and powerful hit man.
In addition to appearing in Smokin' Aces earlier this year and the upcoming film American Gangster with Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe and T.I., Common is also in negotiations to star in a crime drama called Night Watchman.
The film is an adaptation of an original idea by author James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential) and centers around a disgraced cop who after discovering corruption inside the police department, sets out on a mission to redeem himself. The drama, which will star Keanu Reeves and Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, will see Common tackling the character of Coates, a heroin dealer from Belize posing as an undercover police officer.
In related news, Com is gearing up for the release of his latest LP Finding Forever, which is set for a July 10 release date. The Windy City lyricist recently shot a video for the song "The Game" in Los Angeles, which is rumored to be the CD's first single. The disc features production from Kanye West, will.i.am, and the late J Dilla as well as guest spots from Dwele, D'Angelo and Bilal, among others.
