Jay-Z Plane Crash Rumor, "A False Alarm"

ImageRumors of airplane crash involving Jay-Z earlier this morning (May 4) have been put to rest by a representative from his label, Def Jam.

Sources had reportedly told gossip website TMZ.com that that the Brooklyn bred rapper was on a four-seat propeller plane headed to watch the Mayweather-De La Hoya fight in Las Vegas this weekend, when it crashed near Asheville, North Carolina in the Smoky Mountains.

When contacted Def Jam for answers, a rep for the label called the report "false." TMZ would later confirm that a plane carrying three unidentified men did crash near Asheville and Hov was not onboard.

Jay (born Sean Carter) recently made headlines when reports surfaced that he was purportedly in negotiations with champagne giant Armand de Brignac, well known for its "Ace of Spades" logo.

Since the top of the year Jay-Z has closed three major business deals. In January, Hov partnered with General Motors to collaborate on a new concept vehicle and joined forces with Coke to relaunch its Cherry Cola.

Last month, Jay sold his Rocawear clothing line to the Iconix Brand Group Inc for $204 million in cash. As part of the deal, the entrepreneurial lyricist will establish a brand new management and licensing company for Iconix.
