BET Honors Hip-Hop History In February

 In honor of Black History Month, BET will be pay homage to hip-hop history with a special line up of documentaries.

Among the lineup will be The MC: This Is Why We Do It, a documentary featuring 50 Cent, Common, Ghostface Killah, Talib Kweli, Twista, Kanye West and Rakim, giving their thoughts on the art form. The MC airs on Saturday, February 24 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.

BET will also air The Art Of 16 Bars on Sunday, February 25 at 3:00 p.m. ET/PT. The film showcases how MCs approach the craft of rhyming from freestyling to mic control and includes candid footage and insight from Jay-Z, Jadakiss, KRS-One, Kool Moe Dee and others. Tupac Shakur: Thug Angel and Black & Blue: Legends of the Hip-Hop Cop will also air during hip-hop history weekend.

In addition, the network will premiere a program entitled "The Top 25 Events That (Mis)Shaped Black America," counting down various events throughout black American history, from serious occurrences such as slavery to social trends like the "jheri curl." The show will enlist commentary from social critics, comedians and celebrities and premieres on Tuesday, February 20 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
