Snoop Dogg To Be Named An 'Icon" This August During BMI Urban Awards

West Coast Hip-Hop veteran Snoop Dogg will be honored during the BMI Urban Awards, which will take place in Los Angeles this August.

A variety of artists will perform an all-star musical tribute to Snoop Dogg, who will also be named a BMI Icon during the awards ceremony.

Snoop Dogg joins a list of well-known artists who have been honored by BMI, including James Brown, George Clinton, Isaac Hayes, Little Richard, the Bee Gees, Willie Nelson and others.

Snoop, who made his debut in 1992 with the album Doggystyle, was selected because of his “unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.”

BMI President and CEO Del Bryant will host the BMI Urban Awards, along with Catherine Brewton, who serves as Vice President of Writer/Publisher relations in Atlanta.

The BMI Awards will take place Friday August 26th at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood, California.
