DJ Drama Leads Atlanta Turkey Drive For Needy Families
DJ Drama will help feed the city of Atlanta's needy this Thanksgiving holiday during the First Annual Turkey Challenge.
DJ Drama and all of Radio One's Atlanta stations (Hot 107.9, Majic 107.5, Praise 102.5) have partnered with Hosea Feed the Hungry to help purchase 3,000 turkeys.
Drama, along with other on-air personalities, will host call-ins all day on November 16, live from the DeKalb Mall on November 16.
The goal is to raise enough money for the turkeys, which will feed thousands of under served families in Atlanta and the Southeast.
"This is an important event for not only me and the Aphilliates, but for Radio One Atlanta," DJ Drama said. "The Atlanta community has provided us with so much love and support over the years and without them, we would not be the names we are today. It is our absolute pleasure to put together this event and provide to those who are in need.”
Hosea Feed the Hungry (HFTH) was founded by Reverend Hosea and Mrs. Juanita Williams in 1970 and is the Southeast’s largest food bank, serving over 160,000 individuals with food, rent and utility assistance.
This year’s fundraising event is even more important because corporate and private individual donations have decreased by 35%, while Hosea Feed the Hungry had a 45% increase in people asking for help.
"DJ Drama has become a role model for young people to start giving back to their community and HFTH is thrilled to partner with him to help those less fortunate than ourselves this holiday season," said Elisabeth Omilami, HFTH executive director.
The turkeys collected will be given to thousands of needy families beginning on Monday, November 23-November 25 at HFTH’s headquarters.
Additionally, the turkeys purchased will be used for the feature meal at four holiday dinners in 2009-2010 - Thanksgiving, Christmas, Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday and Easter.
